Palo in Leyte Province is among many areas that were hit stunningly hard by Typhoon Haiyan, leaving at least 130 dead and residents looting to survive.
Basically no houses were left in Brgy. Candahug in Palo after the typhoon, reported ABS-CBN on Wednesday.
The death toll increased to 130, and almost all of the 983 members of the Eastern Visayas police forced based in Palo are missing.
A huge storm surge hit the police headquarters. A source said that only 34 police officers have reported for duty so far.
Residents are in desperate need of water, food, and medicine, which is leading to looting, ABS-CBN reported. They are looting department stores and other stores, taking television sets, beds, food, and other items.
The looting has included people breaking glass to enter the Robinsons Mall, where people took food and spare car parts, according to DZMM radio.
Relief goods still hadn’t reached Palo as of Wednesday morning. Residents are hoping relief goods will arrive soon.
Much church infrastructure was destroyed in Palo, including the cathedral of Palo and the shrine of Santo Niño.
