Orlando Bloom, the British actor remembered for his film roles as woodland elf Legolas in The Lord of the Rings and blacksmith Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean, was given an honorary degree from the University of Kent this past weekend. Bloom’s fiancee Miranda Kerr, parents, and sister attended the ceremony at Britain’s historic Canterbury Cathedral.
“It’s a really big deal. It’s an exciting day for me. I’m really honored to be back in my hometown. I have so many amazing memories of the cathedral and Canterbury,” Bloom noted to BBC. This was the actor’s first graduation ceremony -- as he apparently missed his graduation from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama because he was on location filming The Lord of the Rings.
