At least four McDonald’s workers in Oklahoma were injured when a suspect opened fire on them after they had told two customers that the dining area was shut down to the CCP virus pandemic, officials said.
The incident took place at a location in Oklahoma City, and involved one female suspect. She became angry about the closed down seating area and opened fire, hitting a worker in the leg and another in the shoulder, officials said.
One of the McDonald’s employees was shot and three others were injured, authorities told the station. Previous reports said that two employees were shot and also said there were two suspects involved.
Withrow elaborated on the incident, adding that the shooter, 32, “got into a physical altercation with one of the employees” before the employee was knocked to the ground.
The suspect then went “out of the restaurant and then comes back in the restaurant with a gun and fires two or three rounds off,” he told the news outlet.
Withrow told Business Insider one person was shot in the arm and two were hit with bullet shrapnel.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski told “Good Morning America” on Thursday that two employees “are OK and they’re going to have a full recovery.”
“Obviously, it’s a heinous crime, particularly because these two people were trying to really support public health,” Kempczinski said. “I think what you’re seeing in this situation is really what you’re seeing in a variety of situations across the country which is this tension about opening, people’s concern about it, but there’s absolutely no excuse for violence, particularly gun violence.”
Other details about the incident are not clear.
According to a tally from Johns Hopkins University, more than 70,000 people in the United States have died from the CCP virus.
