President Obama had a message for climate change deniers when he gave a commencement speech at University of California - Irvine. He said denying it is like the moon is made of cheese.
He also added that a $1 billion competitive fund will be added to “Help communities prepare for the impacts of climate change and build more resilient infrastructure across the country.”
The White House said in a release: “Responding to demand from state, local and tribal leaders who are working to increase the safety and security of their communities, the nearly $1 billion competition will invite communities that have experienced natural disasters to compete for funds to help them rebuild and increase their resilience to future disasters.”
$180 million of the $1 billion will go to states devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
Obama took several jabs at climate-change deniers. The president criticized those who say climate change is not tied to humans, saying they pose a threat to the future.
In the speech, Obama stated, “When they’re asked about climate change they say ‘Hey, look, I’m not a scientist.’ What that really means is ‘I know that man-made climate change really is happening but if I admit it I’ll be run out of town by our radical friends that think climate science is a liberal plot.'”
