NYC Religious Community Bids Farewell to Mayor Bloomberg

NEW YORK—The city’s religious leaders took turns to thank Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his service to the city and bid him farewell at the annual Interfaith Breakfast held at the New York Public Library flagship building on Tuesday.

With hours left in his tenure, the mayor spoke about the city becoming the safest and strongest ever. He thanked the religious community for working with him on issues like immigration reform and protecting the city residents’ religious freedoms.

“The issues that we’ve worked on together reflect the kind of values that bind us together as New Yorkers: freedom for all, opportunity for all, and compassion for all,” Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg hosted the first annual Interfaith Breakfast on the day before he first took office twelve years ago. He receive a standing ovation each time he took the stage on Tuesday.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott as well as several members of the administration attended. Bloomberg took the time to thank all of his commissioners and the 290,000 people who work for the city.

Speaking during the invocations, Bishop Nancy Pelosi went through several formalities before concluding, “And on a final note, honorable mayor, I have to words for you. You rock!”
