‘Swan Lake’
The classic 19th century Russian ballet is brought to life by the New York City Ballet Tuesday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 18, at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. With music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Peter Martins (after Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov, and George Balanchine), ‘Swan Lake’ tells the story of Odette, the swan queen, who is cursed to only be human at night. She must win her true love, Prince Siegfried, and not lose him to the sorcerer’s daughter, Odile. Two hours total duration, performed in two acts.

Brazilian Day
With ethnic music, food, and crafts, Brazilian Day will be celebrated in Manhattan’s Little Brazil on Sunday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Now in its 27th year, this cultural festival began as a celebration of Brazil’s Independence Day and attracted an estimated 1.5 million people last year. The main stage will be located at 43rd Street and 6th Avenue and a second stage will be at 46th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues.

Richmond County Fair
Take in the fresh air and fun at the Richmond County Fair in Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island during Labor Day weekend. Included in the admission cost are amusement rides, kids’ rides, country fair contests, competitions, traditional crafts, farm animals, pig races, classic cars, historical presentations, and more. Historic Richmond Town is a 30-minute ride from the Staten Island ferry on the S74 bus. Saturday, Sept. 3 to Monday Sept. 5. Rain or Shine.

String Music from 17th Century Italy and Germany
Dedicated to performing historically informed concerts, ARTEK will offer string music from 17th century Italy and Germany at Immanuel Lutheran Church on the Upper East Side on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 1:15 p.m. as part of their Midtown Concert Series. Music by Buxtehude, Marini, Rosenmüller, and others. The performance will last approximately 35 minutes. Immanuel Lutheran Church is located at 122 E. 88th St., at Lexington Avenue.

The Twin Towers and the City: Photographs
Ahead of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, an exhibit of MacArthur award-winning photographer Camilo Jose Vergara’s photos of the World Trade Center, spanning four decades, will open on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Museum of the City of New York. The photos often show Brooklyn, New Jersey, the Bronx, or Manhattan in the foreground and the towers in the background. They are “a startling and poetic reminder of how ubiquitous the towers were in the landscape of city life,” says the museum.
