“The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow” comes to life at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Westchester with daytime and evening tours. The headless horseman rides through, as expert storytellers, such as “Stories in Stone” author Doug Keister, introduce visitors to the cemetery’s residents. The nighttime tours are conducted by eerie lantern light. Book ahead for one of several tours from now until Halloween night.

London Symphony Orchestra
Acclaimed maestro Sir Colin Davis leads the London Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall on Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. Though less widely known, “Missa Solemnis” is one of Beethoven’s most significant works. The performance features soprano Helena Juntunen, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, tenor Paul Groves, bass Matthew Rose, and the London Symphony Chorus. There will be a preconcert lecture by Benjamin Sosland at 6:45 p.m. in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse.

Chinese International Future Stars Recital
The culmination of the fifth annual Chinese International Vocal Competition, New Tang Dynasty Television will present the Future Stars Recital at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium on Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. The Future Stars Recital concert will feature award-winning vocalists from Europe, Asia, North and South America along with this year’s top winning male and female vocalists performing the best of classical music of the East and the West—from Chinese folk songs to Italian opera arias.

Starfest 2011 With Amateur Astronomers Association
Take in the celestial-scape with large telescopes open for public use at Sheep Meadow in Central Park on Saturday Oct. 22, from dusk to 10 p.m. The Amateur Astronomers Association and Urban Park Rangers will be your guides, discussing the science, history, and folklore of the universe. Fall and winter are the best times to observe meteor showers, the phases of the moon, and the many planets of the Milky Way. Cloud/rain date is Oct. 23. European Paintings Auction
Bonhams New York will auction around 190 European paintings from the 15th through 20th centuries on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The paintings start at around $3,000. Highlights include a painting of Venice titled, “Circle of Francesco Tironi” (circa 1745–1797) estimated at $30,000–$50,000 and a still life of flowers by Cornelis Kick (Amsterdam circa 1635–1681), estimated at $15,000–$20,000.

’The Passion of Joan of Arc’
The French silent film “The Passion of Joan of Arc,” released 1928, will be screened with a live and newly written musical score at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The film tells the story of the trial, imprisonment, torture, and execution of the Catholic saint Joan of Arc. It is paired with a live U.S. premiere performance of a new score composed and performed by Adrian Utley, of the group Portishead, and Will Gregory, of the electronic music duo Goldfrapp, along with six electric guitars, a choir, harps, percussion, horns, and keyboards.
