Univision has responded to the controversy surrounding Aleyda Ortiz winning Nuestra Belleza Latina.

Some people believe that Josephine Ochoa should have won.

Fans sent an open letter to Univision demanding that they show proof of the results.

The network told Latin Times that it was not the network but an independent company, Telescope Inc, that tallies the votes. This is supposed to ensure impartiality.

“As the vote certification partner of ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina,’ Telescope Inc. certifies that the results based on the audience votes cast within the valid voting window are accurate. Telescope rigorously analyzed all of the voting data as per the conditions and voting rules for ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina,'” Univision said in a statement.

It elaborated on the process, explaining that each user is allowed 10 votes per platform. Only taking into account Twitter or Facebook votes alone doesn’t give an accurate picture. Other methods including telephone calls, and text messages.

“[Univision] rules impose a limit of ten votes per Twitter account, which third-party social analytics services do not account for. We can confirm that a fair vote occurred and the result is correct. Aleyda Ortiz is the winner of this season’s competition, with indisputable victories across all four of the voting methods (toll-free, AT&T SMS, Online, and Twitter).”
