HOUSTON—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company brought a full house to Jones Hall in Houston Monday evening, Dec. 26.
In the audience was Mrs. Fiona Cunningham, director of a nonprofit organization, who said the performance brought her joy.
“I really enjoyed it, it was excellent. I enjoyed the color, I enjoyed the messaging, it was wonderful,” Mrs. Cunningham said.
She said Shen Yun was “beauty and happiness,” and what impressed her the most was the smiles on all the dancers’ faces throughout the performances.
‘Dancing was amazing’
Also in the audience was Madeleine Oldham, dramaturg, who attended with her parents.
“I thought the dancing was amazing,” Miss Oldham said. “The stories told through the dance were good.”
“The costume changes alone were impressive,” Miss Oldham added, laughing. “I loved the digital backdrop, that was fun.”
Miss Oldham was impressed with the orchestra, “they were great, they were terrific,” she said, adding that she wanted to hear more Chinese instruments.
The Shen Yun Orchestra combines a classical Western orchestra with classical Chinese instruments, like the pipa, bamboo flute, and erhu, which she thought was “lovely.”
