Nokia, the world’s largest maker of cellular phones, announced late last week that it has purchased MetaCarta, a leading U.S.-based location services firm.
Nokia did not disclose financial terms of the deal. MetaCarta, based in Massachusetts, employs more than 30 people and develops geographic and location technologies.
The deal is seen as a way for Nokia to offer navigation services to U.S. customers via its mobile phones sold in the United States.
