Todd Haley of the Kansas City Chiefs and Tony Sparano of the Miami Dolphins were both removed as head coaches Monday, according to reports on the teams’ respective websites.
Haley, who was hired prior to the 2009 season, led his team to a division title last season before sputtering along this year. The Chiefs (5–8) have lost five of six games to put them in last place in the AFC West. The 44-year-old was 19–27 overall in just under three seasons with Kansas City.
Sparano’s Dolphins (4–9) were also in last place and certain to miss the playoffs for the third straight year. Under his watch, Miami went 11–5 in his inaugural season (2008) to make the playoffs, but followed it up with consecutive 7–9 seasons. Overall, the 50-year-old Sparano was 29–33 in just under four years with the Dolphins.
