Just a few weeks after Google Inc. introduced its new Nexus 7 tablet during its annual Google I/O developer conference, the tablet has been sold out virtually everywhere since its launch on July 13.

The tablet, which costs $199 for the 8 GB version, and $249 for the 16 GB version, is sold out on Google Play’s website, Staples, GameStop, and Best Buy. All other retailers are only selling the $249 model, while Google Play store is exclusively selling the $199 model. It is unknown when retailers will start carrying the 8GB version.

Google Play store notes that the popular tablet will ship in one to two weeks, showing a backorder for demand.

The tablet, which Google said is “made for Google Play,” would suggest new shows, movies, music, and applications based on the user’s taste and usage preferences. The tablet with a 7-inch high-resolution display allows over 9 hours of HD video playback, 10 hours of Web browsing or reading, and up to 300 hours of standby time.

In the weeks leading up to the retail launch, some consumers pre-ordered the tablet, which is expected to arrive in mid-July.
