Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton will replace Eli Manning’s roster spot on the Pro Bowl as Manning prepares for the Super Bowl, according to a release on NFL.com.
Newton, drafted first overall after winning the Heisman Trophy in 2010 at Auburn, threw for an NFL rookie-record 4,051 yards this past season. In addition, the speedy-Newton ran for 706 yards to become the first player to throw for more than 4,000 and rush for 500 yards in the same season. Newton also set the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 14.
In addition, Bears defensive end Julius Peppers will join the squad in place of previously selected Jason Pierre-Paul.
Peppers recorded 11 sacks this year for Chicago and now has 100 in his 10-year career.
