NEW YORK—Getting around has become considerably pricier in the last few days. MTA subway fares went up Dec. 30, along with tolls for bridges and tunnels. The Department of Transportation (DOT) followed suit and upped the cost of parking meters on Monday.
According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), south of 86th Street in Manhattan, where muni-meters are used, drivers now have to pay $3 per hour, an increase of 50 cents.
For the rest of the city, 25 cents will now buy drivers 15 minutes of parking time, down from 20 minutes. Since workers need to recalibrate the mechanical meters, it will take until the end of June until all five boroughs implement the changes.
Manhattan and Queens will see the first hikes. The Bronx will follow in March and the changes will reach Brooklyn and Staten Island by the end of June, according to NY1.
