NEW YORK—A colorful display of thousand of years of Chinese culture amazed audience members attending a sold-out performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company at the David H. Koch Theater in the Lincoln Center, New York City, Sunday, Jan 15.
Robert Tisch, a retired investment manager, called Shen Yun “very beautiful,” praising its dancers, costumes, and the cultural experience it brought.
“It’s stunningly gorgeous. The costumes are beautiful. It’s lovely,” he said.
Shen Yun presents a collection of short pieces of classical Chinese dance, telling stories from China to the modern day, according to the company’s website. Colorful and elaborate costumes, presented with brilliant colors, a unique orchestra combining Classical Chinese and western musical instruments, plus a digital backdrop that serves as a visual aid, are amongst the features of the New York based company.
The female dancers, were “gorgeous, very graceful, beautiful, said Mr. Tisch adding, ”The subtlety of the movements is very impressive, very stunning.”
Jokingly he added that the performances gave him “a desire to be youthful.”
Classical Chinese dance, part of 5,000 years of China’s divine culture, display’s China’s traditional aesthetics, the company’s website says. The dance system is considered one of the most comprehensive in the world.
Another audience member, Jamie Lee Smith, director of a clinic in New Jersey, thought the choreography of each dance was “gorgeous” and the dancers were simultaneously “elegant” and “beautiful.”
“Everything about them—it takes your breath away,” she said.
Ms Lee Smith said she “absolutely loved the show” adding that the dancers made her feel as if she was an important part of the performance.
“It makes you feel special, it’s a nice feeling. You feel like they’re performing for you,” Ms.Lee Smith said.
She summed up her experience of Shen Yun saying: “The costumes, the dancing, the visuals, they’re just amazing. Absolutely beautiful. I loved it. I’m blown away.”
