New Chinese Party Leadership Makes Reform Hopes Bleak
The new membership of the Politburo Standing Committee augurs poorly for the chance for reform. Politburo members known to favor reform were not appointed, and several of those who were appointed have strong ties to former Party head Jiang Zemin. Responsible for the persecution of the spiritual practice of Falun Gong, Jiang wants to prevent his legacy from being challenged.
