A cat in Pennsylvania got a new lease on life after being rid of roughly 2 pounds of matted fur.

The little one was found in the home of a man who had been sent to a nursing facility due to Alzheimers.

Relative Paul Russel went to the house soon after and spotted the matted kitty running from beneath the bed. Realizing something must be done to help the cat, which is named Hidey, he took her to Philadelphia’s Animal Rescue League and Wildlife Shelter. There, staffers freed the calico from discomfort, shaving off pounds of what one worker described as ‘dreadlocks’.

Hidey is now at Russel’s home and doing well, sleeping in a warm cat bed and purring whenever she’s held.
