The Washington Nationals have signed starting pitcher Edwin Jackson to a one-year deal, pending a physical, according to a report on the team’s website.
Jackson, who went 12-9 last season with a 3.79 ERA and spent 2011 between the Cardinals and the White Sox, will suit up for his seventh team since coming up with the Dodgers in 2003.
The 28-year-old has a career record of 60-60 with an ERA of 4.46. In addition, the right-handed Jackson has won 10 or more games four straight seasons and was an All-Star in 2009.
Jackson, a Scott Boras client, had been considered one of the better starting pitchers available in free agency. Though he didn’t get anywhere near the five-year $77.5 million deal that top pitcher C.J. Wilson received, this should allow him to prove himself and re-enter the market next year.
