Police precincts around the nation will be hosting a night out filled with food, games, and music for the whole family Tuesday evening as part of the 29th annual National Night Out Against Crime.

National Night Out is an event organized to involve the community with their local law enforcement agents, to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, and generate support for anti-crime programs.

The event strengthens neighborhood spirit and partnerships with the police, according to its website. National Night Out sends a “message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”

The 17th Precinct is hosting its Night Out at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, on 47th St. between 1st and 2nd Avenues, with barbecue, dancing, and a band, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Also in East Midtown, at Carl Schurz Park, E. 86th St. at East End Ave., the 19th Precinct will be serving refreshments from local food establishments, such as Manny’s on Second, with live blues music, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The 13th Precinct will be holding the event at the playground of MS 104, corner of 20th St. and 2nd Ave., with clowns, caricaturists, gifts, and promotional items, and addressing children’s safety and health in particular, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The complete list of event locations by precinct can be found on the NYPD’s website.
