Natalie Portman took home the Best Leading Actress Oscar on Sunday at the 83rd annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

“Thank you so much to the academy,” said Portman after winning her first Oscar and second Oscar nomination. “This is insane. I truly, sincerely, wish the prize was to get to work with my fellow nominees. I’m so in awe of all of you.”

After receiving the award from Jeff Bridges, Portman, wearing a maroon dress, said her role as Nina Sayers in Black Swan was the “most important role” of her life.

Portman beat out Annette Bening in The Kids Are All Right, Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone, and Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine.

The Academy Awards, which started at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST, is considered the most prestigious award of the American movie industry. Honoring movies released in 2010, “Hollywood’s biggest night” introduces the winners in the 24 Oscar categories.

The Oscar presentation, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco, is televised live in more than 200 countries.
