Nashville season 2 is nearing the end but ABC is presenting a one-hour special on April 23 that has cast members--including Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio--performing live.
The Nashville-inspired web series “On Your Record” will air for the first time on television.
“Direct from Nashville’s world famous Ryman Auditorium, cast members of Nashville will take the stage to perform show favorites then sit down in the Bluebird Cafe for acoustic performances and an intimate look at the songwriting process with the songwriters themselves, talking candidly about how this music found its way to the show and what it means to the actors and songwriters,” ABC said in its description.
Among the songwriters appearing on the special are Trent Dabbs and Caitlyn Smith, who co-wrote the anthem, “Don’t Put Dirt on My Grave Just Yet,” which Hayden Panettiere and Jonathan Jackson’s characters have performed, as well as Striking Matches (duo Sarah Zimmerman and Justin Davis) who’ve co-written “I Ain’t Leaving Without Your Love” with Cary Barlowe, performed by Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio and Chaley Rose on the TV show.
After this special, Nashville has three episodes left in season 2.
While the future of the show is still up in the air--it’s not as strong as many other ABC shows at the moment--it looks like it will probably get renewed, according to Zap2It, which predicts cancellations and renewals.
“At 82% of the ABC scripted show ratings average since Jan 1, Nashville is on the ragged edge of the range that would signal renewal for a sophomore show. Close enough to tip the prediction positively,” it said.
TV Wise agrees, saying that “critical darling Nashville has had some soft ratings this season, but is still considered a shoo in for a pick up.”
Modern Family (Season 6), Scandal (Season 4), Once Upon a Time (Season 4), The Middle (Season 6), Castle (Season 7), Revenge (Season 4), and Last Man Standing (Season 4), and Grey’s Anatomy (Season 11), Resurrection (season 2), and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (season 2) are all certain to be renewed on ABC.
Suburgatory (season 4) and The Goldbergs (season 2) join Nashville in the likely to be renewed category.
