Mitul Shah, the president of a second-tier football team in Kenya was among those killed, a spokesman for the country’s national football federation said.
Shah, president of Bidco United, was shot and killed on the first day of the siege on Saturday, Football Kenya spokesman John Kaniuki said.
Shah was director of sales and marketing the Bidco cooking oil company
He was attending a promotional cooking event with children at the Westgate mall. Friends said that he died trying to save stranded children.
“Sad day as we remember our friends and family who are hostages and those who fell Victims to the brutal terror attack,” said the family in a statement. “The Bidco Family remembers our dear Mitul Shah R.I.P who succumbed trying to rescue the children.”
