Mistakes To Avoid When Building Your Website

Websites are in higher demand than ever before because of the booming ecommerce market and people’s reliance on using the internet to look up local businesses. The difference between having a good or subpar website can mean the difference between having a very successful business and a mediocre business at best. There are common mistakes that are made when building a website and mistakes that are made once the website are made. The following are some of the most common mistakes that are made with websites.

Sections Aren’t Made Clear

Many potential customers on a website do not want to have to guess where the portion of the website they want to be is at. They will simply just move on and got to a website where everything is easy to find. Having the navigation links in the head are important as the users eyes will go directly there to help them on their way. The quicker the customer can find what they are looking for and checkout the odds of making a sale increase. Keeping this header or even sidebar consistent on all pages is good because keeping sales simple is a great key to success.

Loading Times Too Slow

Every person has been to a site that has slowed their computer or even frozen it. Then the question is asked “would you visit this site again is there is a comparable product on a fast loading site?” and the answer is a resounding “no.” If your server and customers don’t need video or an interactive site to get a sale done or to have a question answered then optimizing your site for speed should be a priority when building your website.

Not Having A Blog

Having a blog is one of the best things that you can do to market your company. This guide has a complete list of all the benefits of blogging and one of them includes connecting with others. Business contacts that are garnered just by writing blog posts optimize your marketing budget and establish your company as an authority in its space. A blog is also a way to answer common questions or problems which can bring in new customers as they will trust your company if you answered a simple or difficult question for them.

Going Live Too Soon

Many companies and people are in such a hurry to have their website up and running that they don’t take the time to test it. Not testing your website can lead to confusion and many bugs that will have potential customers questioning the company’s competence. Even if the company has nothing to do with tech, not being able to have a fully functional website does not reflect well on the company in question. Making sure website copy is proofread and not overly wordy is also important. Saying the most with as little words as possible gets the point across and keeps the person scanning your site engaged and attentive.

This is not an all-inclusive list but it does hit on the mistakes that many companies and people make when building their website. Not rushing the website that is being built could be the most important thing that the builder can do. Rushing generates mistakes that may not be found until it is too late. Good luck with your website! Is there any other mistakes that you see commonly?
