Missing UC Berkeley Student Nick Leslie Confirmed Dead in France Terrorist Attack

Updated:

Leslie was an environmental sciences major and had been planning to begin studies at the Haas School of Business in the fall, according to the press release.

The university is holding a candlelight vigil at UC Berkeley’s Sproul Plaza on July 18th from 4:30–5:30pm to memorialize the fallen student. The event description adds that Leslie was “a very involved student in Berkeley through his fraternity, his club involvement, and his academic work trying to make a more environmentally-sustainable world.”

Three other Berkeley students were also among the 200 injured in the truck attack. Senior computer science major Vladyslav Kostiuk, 23, sustained a broken leg in the incident, while senior environmental economics and policy major Diane Huang, 20, suffered a broken foot. The pair have since been released from medical treatment and have returned to their summer dormitories in Nice. Undeclared sophomore Daryus Medora, 21, suffered a broken leg and remains in the hospital.

Leslie’s death comes just two weeks after another Berkeley student, Tarishi Jain, was killed by a terrorist attack at a restaurant in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
