Miss Mississippi 2014 Jasmine Murray is one of the women seeking the 2015 Miss America crown on Sunday night.
Murray, 22, hails from Columbus.
She has attended Mississippi School of the Arts and Mississippi State University, and wants to obtain a Bachelor of Art degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Her career ambition is to become a professional vocalist and news anchor.
Her talent is vocal and her platform issue is 13 Going On 30 – Teaching Young Girls to Embrace Their Age.
She started the program after watching a friend go through teen pregnancy.
“You only get your youth once,” she told the Press of Atlantic City.
“I want them to enjoy it and enjoy not having responsibilities.”
She and others visit schools encouraging children to set goals and be themselves.
“I want them to find their passion,” she said.
Murray is on her way, being chosen as one of the other semifinalists on Sunday.
