Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, welcomed his first son with fiancée, Nicole Johnson.
They named their son Boomer Robert Phelps. The swimmer made the announcement on social media.
“Welcome Boomer Robert Phelps into the world!!! Born 5-5-2016 at 7:21 pm !!! Healthy and happy!!! Best feeling I have ever felt in my life!!! @nicole.m.johnson and Boomer both healthy!!!” he wrote on Instagram.
Phelps and Johnson have been engaged for more than a year.
This came after he said he was retiring from swimming following a DUI arrest. “Swimming is a major part of my life, but right now I need to focus my attention on me as an individual, and do the necessary work to learn from this experience and make better decisions in the future,” he told the Baltimore Sun in 2014.
But he recently came out of retirement. Phelps, 30, is currently training for his fifth Olympic Games, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this summer.
“I don’t know yet. Honestly, we’re kind of taking it day by day,” said Bob Bowman, his coach, reported the Washington Post. “I don’t think either one of us has real expectations other than to have fun, see what happens and go from there. Unlike previous years, there’s no long-term plan.”
The Games will be held between Aug. 5 and Aug. 21.
“I want to retire how I want to retire---and I have a great opportunity to do that,” he told CNN.
