Melissa McCarthy is never one to turn down a challenge. So when it was time for a lip sync battle with Jimmy Fallon, McCarthy delivered like a true boss.
The 45-year-old actress made an appearance on the “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” on April 4, and partook in the segment, Lip Sync Battle.
Fallon admitted to nerves, which McCarthy responded with, “I don’t get nervous a lot. I am pretty freaked about crushing you.”
Crushing Fallon is an understatement.
In round one, Jimmy Fallon’s song of choice was 1971’s “Brand New Key” by Melanie. Fallon mimicked roller skating as he sang about having a “brand new pair of roller skates.”
It was then McCarthy’s turn who donned an all black ensemble and black baseball cap. The song choice of DMX’s “X Gon' Give it To Ya” left Fallon shocked as well as the band—with some members mouths wide open. The performance was energetic.
In the second round, Fallon appeals to the teenage demographics with his song choice, Zayn’s single, “Pillowtalk.” Zayn’s number one single is on his number one album, “Mind of Mine.” Throughout the performance, Fallon cradles a pillow and lays on the floor with the pillow.
McCarthy now wearing clear glasses ends the battle with “Colors of the Wind” from the Disney movie, “Pocahontas.” As she sings, a forest appears from behind blue curtains and she is then littered with rain, glitter, leaves, flower petals, and animals. The performance earns McCarthy a standing ovation from the audience.
McCarthy was on the “Tonight Show” to promote her new film, “The Boss” which is slated for release on April 8.
In the meantime, watch McCarthy and Fallon battle it out.
