Melissa McCarthy and Husband Make Stephen Colbert Eat Some Wacky Creations

Updated:

Melissa McCarthy is currently making the rounds to promote new movie, “The Boss” schedule for an April 8 release.

On April 5, McCarthy wowed fans with her lip synching abilities on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and the following day displayed her cooking skills on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

The comedian, alongside her husband, Ben Falcone, revealed to Colbert that Food Network’s “Chopped” is one of their favorite shows to watch as a family and they would one day love to participate on the show.

As a prize for the winner, Colbert would donate to a charity of their choice.

Colbert decided to bring the cooking competition show to them, with his own version titled “Smooshed.”

As with “Chopped,” the married couple were given a basket of mystery ingredients—in this case, saltine crackers, mini marshmallows, and bacon bits—and access to a pantry that consisted of peanut butter, bologna, mayonnaise and cereal.

As a prize for the winner, Colbert would donate to a charity of their choice on behalf of Colbert’s Americone Dream Fund.

The one-minute timed segment showed McCarthy and Falcone feverishly prepare a meal that would be both appetizing and visually appealing. McCarthy was going for “sweet savory” whereas Falcone’s strategy was to have “the flavors speak for themselves.”

When it was time to present their creations, Falcone presented a bacon bit marshmallow saltine with “just a little bit of pickle for taste.” Colbert described the dish presentation as “immaculate” and the taste as “tart and dry.”

A self-described panicked McCarthy prepared a “Tuscany-influenced” rustic hash, which Colbert described as having a “certain testicularity.”

Colbert chose McCarthy as the winner, though he smooshes her meal.

It seems McCarthy is on a winning streak.
