McDonald’s all-day breakfast? The CEO for McDonald’s might enable the fast food chain to serve breakfast all day long.
President and CEO Don Thompson told CNBC that the change might be made in the near future. He also said the corporation is looking into delivery service, following moves made by chains including Burger King.
“Yes, we would consider it,” he said, regarding serving breakfast all day long. “We have the focus on our existing menu, but we have looked at breakfast across the day. We have it in some markets around the world.”
McDonald’s, he added, is looking into “innovative ways” to expand breakfast hours.
“I think we'll be seeing some of those things in the near future,” Thompson continued.
Following Burger King opening up delivery services in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., he said McDonald’s could follow suit.
“Delivery is a big, big opportunity, particularly in areas where you don’t have drive-throughs,” Thompson said.
McDonald’s failed to lift sales with its Dollar Menu but profits for the chain rose in the first quarter of this year.
“That battle for market share has become so critical for the long-term health of business, we’re willing to sacrifice that margin,” said Peter Bensen, the company’s chief financial officer.
Although profit margins declined during the first quarter, McDonald’s noted that it picked off market share in many parts of the world, including the U.S.
