Matt Kemp $250,000 pledge: Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp said he has donated $250,000 to Oklahoma’s tornado relief efforts, it was reported.
“On Monday, out of concern and emotion I committed $1,000.00 for every home run I hit until the All-Star Break. It was a quick and small gesture in advance of what I knew would be my greater contribution through your rebuilding process. I am keeping my pledge and in addition, donating $250,000,” Kemp said, according to CBS Sports.
Kemp was making the donation to families who suffered during the devastating tornado that swept through Moore, Okla. At least 24 people were confirmed dead in the twister.
Kemp, who is originally from Midwest City, originally was criticized on Twitter for saying he would just donate $1,000 for every home run he hits during the season, reported Yahoo Sports. He later upped the donation to $250,000 along with his original pledge.
The move comes after Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant pledged $1 million for tornado relief efforts.
