PHILADELPHIA—Jennifer Behm, the first-place finisher in the second season of TV show Master Chef, found Shen Yun Performing Arts to be a delight to a different set of taste buds on Sunday.
“It’s absolutely fantastic. I wish as Americans we had this culture—driven so deep,” said Ms. Behm.
Shen Yun’s performance closed its three-day run in Philadelphia at The Merriam Theater on Sunday, Jan. 8 to an astounding five curtain calls. Each time the curtain lowered, the show’s patrons continued to cheer, showing their appreciation for Shen Yun’s mission to “revive 5,000 years of ancient Chinese culture.”
“Sophisticated dance techniques, an orchestra joining instruments East and West, beautiful costumes, and a stunning back drop—this is Shen Yun at first glance,” says Shen Yun’s website.
After the final curtain call, Ms. Behm said, “The colors and the vibrancy of all of it and the excitement” were the elements that impressed her most.
Beauty and elegance are a familiar realm to Ms. Behm. She won the Miss Delaware USA pageant in 1999 and participated in the Miss USA pageant in 2000.
New York-based Shen Yun has three companies touring the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will next perform at New York’s Lincoln Center from Jan. 11 to 15.
