Marion Bartoli, the top French tennis player and Wimbledon winner, announced her retirement.

Reuters reported that Bartoli, 28, made the decision on Wednesday.

ESPN reported that she retired following a loss today in Cincinnati.

Days ago, she was injured during the Rogers Cup.

“I started to really have some pain when I was serving and I tried to push through,” Bartoli said, according to The Star. “But then the beginning of the second set was just way too much to handle, to handle that kind of pain.”
