America’s Got Talent will have a new judge at this summer’s opening show as Howie Mandel takes David Hasselhoff’s place.
This is the fifth season for America’s Got Talent, and Tuesday will be the first show without Hasselhoff. Hasselhoff made an announcement in January about his desire to pursue an independent TV show.
Hasselhoff’s official website says that the new show, The Untitled Hasselhoff Project, will premier in 2010 and will be a half-hour real-life drama starring Hasselhoff and his two daughters who try to break their way into stardom.
Soon after Hasselhoff announced his plans, Mandel, who was the host for Deal or No Deal, was offered the spot as Deal or No Deal got canceled.
NBC’s America’s Got Talent Web page now includes a thorough biography of newly added judge Mandel, and an interview where he answers questions submitted by fans.
According to USA Today, Mandel’s reaction to his new title as judge on America’s Got Talent was, “I love great talent, but I love bad talent, too. I’ve been onstage for 32 years. I think I can identify the ‘it’ factor, the wow factor.”
Mandel said in his interview that this season will present acts never seen before. Anything and everything can be expected.
