A man drove 870 miles and spent about $600 in gas and food just to get KFC for his wife.
This might sound strange, but the couple live in Yellowknife, Canada. The town of about 20,000 people is located in Canada’s Northwest Territories on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake just below the Arctic Circle.
Mike and Angela Johnson apparently love KFC so much they had it at their wedding reception 15 years ago.
They eat the chicken to celebrate their anniversary each year.
Their favorite KFC near Yellowknife closed down, and the closest one is located hundreds of miles away. Mike and one of his sons looked up the nearest KFC.
When Mike arrived, he ordered 15 buckets of chicken.
He told the CBC: “When I ordered 15 buckets, they said: ‘Uh, it might take a little while’. I said: ‘No problem’ so they cooked it up right away.”
When asked if it was worth it, he said it was “worth every penny.”
His family has to “keep the traditions alive‘ so ’why stop now?'” he asked.
He explained: “So during March break, me and my son got up early one morning, drove 700 kilometres, picked up 15 buckets of KFC and drove 700 kilometres back — in one day.”
Mike asked them if they could give it to him frozen, but the KFC chain wouldn’t bite.
“They said: ‘Everything’s fresh here. If you want frozen chicken, go to the grocery store,’” he said, laughing.
