Man City v Arsenal was very competitive and lively but Arsenal came out with the goods, winning 3–0 at the Eastlands in Sunday’s Premier League blockbuster.
City were down one goal and one man by half time—Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri scored after a nice one-two with Andrey Arshavin in the 21st minute after Dedryck Boyata was sent off in the fifth minute.
It could have been worse for Man City as they conceded a penalty with five minutes to go in the first half. But keeper Joe Hart showed his England keeper credentials by saving the spot kick from Cesc Fabregas.
Kompany had brought down Fabregas with a late tackle just inside the box but the Arsenal forward’s spot kick to the left was predicted by Hart.
At the end of the first half, City had one red and one yellow card and Arsenal had four yellows in an eventful start.
In the 66th minute, Alex Song got on the end of a blocked pass to net Arsenal’s second. The Gunners put the finishing touch with Nicklas Bendtner scoring the third just minutes from the end after Nasri kept the ball in near the halfway line.
Now Arsenal have assumed second place in the table, albeit on goal difference over the two Manchester clubs.
In other Sunday action, Liverpool won 2–1 over Blackburn Rovers but stayed in the bottom three on goal difference. Manchester United overcame Stoke by the same score as Javier Hernandez scored twice.
