A man adopted at birth, who stopped wanting to know about his biological parents, was shocked to learn that his biological dad was someone he already knew—his co-worker.
Although Nathan Boos, of Tilden, Wisconsin, knew that he was adopted at birth, he had stopped wanting to know about his biological parents since he was in junior high.
Thus, it came as a shock to the 27-year-old when his adoptive mother came to him one night and told him that a man on his Facebook page was his biological father.
“She just went on my Facebook and went through my friends list and brought up his picture and I said get out of here,” he recalled.
A day after hearing the news, Boos sent a message to his biological dad, Robert Degaro, on Facebook.
It turned out that Degaro and his ex-wife had given Boos up for adoption due to financial issues.
“Back then I wasn’t much of a dad. His biological mom had chosen the adoptive parents because they were somewhat related…distant cousins I believe but I didn’t know that,” Degaro said.
Now that both parties have found out the truth, they are not jumping straight into a father-and-son relationship. Instead, they are taking things slowly.
“It’s still kind of a shock and there’s days I’m not sure exactly what to say or how to act…I mean he is my son but we didn’t have that father son relationship growing up and then we became working partners before we knew who we really were,” Degaro said.
But no one knows what the future holds.
