Christopher Hopkins, a.k.a. “The Makeover Guy,” has seen it all. From women who are totally enthusiastic about getting rid of their hair to others who are shaking with nervousness when the process begins, it’s hard to surprise this veteran of personal transformations.
In June, 2015, Elise, a woman with incredibly thick curly hair that draped all the way down to her wrists came in ready for “a big change.” Hopkins knew what he needed to do, but when he got her into the chair, she said she only wanted to get rid of an inch or two.

What happened after that completely changed her look and her life!

As Elise got in the chair, Christopher just couldn’t believe how much hair she had and immediately started playing with it, trying on all different kinds of styles including some “Victorian” looks. But finally, they got down to business and Elise admitted she had just been joking about not being comfortable with short hair. “She’s watched all the videos, she knows!” Christopher’s cameraman chimed in.

“I need something. I need help,” Elise admitted, clearly challenged by what to do with such a luxurious mane. But Christopher knew the only way to go was shorter, and with characteristic spirit, he took his scissors across at about shoulder length. He pretended to be distraught for the camera as he snipped. “How could you cut all that gorgeous hair off?!?”

Elise was clearly a bit shocked at his bold move, “oh man, that’s longer off that what’s on!” As for Christopher, he was finally in his element ready to make a dramatic transformation. “I feel better already. I feel so relieved!” he told the camera.

His brave makeover candidate Elise also admitted it was a relief. As she explained in her pre-makeover video, “I have a nine-month old baby who thinks it’s fun to yank on it, it’s falling out everywhere.” Much to our surprise, once Christopher had finished cutting, she made it clear that she would have been fine with even less hair!

As a mother of a tiny tot, perhaps the best part for Elise was “the peace and quiet.” As opposed to most of her time at home, in the salon, “no one was yelling, ‘Mom, mom!’”

In fact, it was probably Christopher who was more nostalgic about Elise’s lost hair than she was! “I want to have this just to play with.” One of his stylists watching the makeover agreed, as it’s likely they don’t see locks that long every day. “I'll just put it on my head and do different things.”

When Elise was done, the makeover was really impressive. From having hair down to her waist, she now had it cut cleanly above the shoulders, layered up from the bottom out. Instead of just having the two sides equal with a part down the middle, Christopher also gave her right part a wave on the front going to the left. Now you could see how beautiful her hair was instead of it being lost in one big mass.

“This is probably the first time I’ve left a salon and been happy with what happened.” High praise indeed, and another successful transformation for “The Makeover Guy.”
