CHARLOTTE, N.C.—On Jan. 26, Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company visited Charlotte for the second time since 2007. According to the show’s organizers, all three performances at Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts were sold out before opening night on Jan. 26.
Mr. Andy Wang, from China, has worked in America for several years.
He said, “This is my first time watching Shen Yun. I think it’s great to see such a performance, representing authentic and orthodox Chinese art and culture overseas. It’s really very nice. At one point in the show, I had tears in my eyes. I was very touched, deeply touched.”
He responded the Shen Yun mission of reviving 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
“The show depicts both the glorious ancient dynasties and modern China,” Mr. Wang said.
He learned something from the contemporary content in the performance, he said. “Seeing the dance about Falun Gong practitioners under persecution made me realize how different China has become. I believe that we should further promote traditional Chinese culture and end immoral behavior in [current] China.”
He said he was aware of Shen Yun, but experiencing it in person was unique. “Before I saw Shen Yun, I heard people talking about how wonderful the show is. However, it’s even more amazing when you watch it in person and immerse yourself in the programs and the music. It’s a powerful, astonishing feeling.”
Mr. Wang had a profound emotional response, he said. “Being there in person gives you a very strong feeling that is almost like a calling. It’s completely different from hearing about it or watching it on TV.”
Mr. Wang said he was surprised and pleased to see so many American audience members. “I noticed that almost 95 percent of the audience members were Americans or Westerners. They all looked delighted and excited about the show. As a Chinese, I felt very proud to see this.”
He said that he hopes Shen Yun will continue to flourish.
