Rolex series GT competitors Magnus Racing is in Detroit for the Chevrolet Grand Am 200, the first of four Rolex races the team will contest in the month of June.

The team, which saw its driver Andy Lally earn his 100th podium at the New Jersey race, hopes to get Lally and co-driver (and team owner) John Potter to the top step of the podium in the busy month ahead.

First off, the team needs to prepare for Belle Isle. Lally drove the track in an open-wheel car over a decade ago, which the driver says gives him no edge at all.

“It was a long time ago that I drove this car in the old Barber Dodge series,” said Lally on the team’s website. “A lot has changed since then; not only with myself, but I believe the circuit has probably changed a bit too, so we'll all be learning this for the first time. It should be a great event, and as only a two-hour race, we’re going to have to push very hard.”

Like most of the Rolex field, John Potter has never seen the Belle isle circuit. “I always enjoy street circuits, and the sprint format should really lend itself to exciting racing,” he said. “No one is really sure what to expect, but we'll certainly give it a good run.”

After Detroit, the team will head to Ohio for the next event, the Emco Geras classic at Mid-Ohio on June 8. A short breather, and the crew will be back in action for the race at Road America June 23 and the Sahlen’s Six Hours at Watkins Glen on the 29th. Toss in testing at Indianapolis after hat, and this will be one tired team by July.

The Rolex Chevrolet Grand-Am 200 takes the checkered flag at 5:05 p.m. EDT on Saturday, June 2. The race is part of a weekend of high—speed competition, including the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday. Tickets are available through the Detroit Grand Prix website.

The race will be televised live on Speed-TV starting at 5 p.m. Saturday.
