Lupillo Rivera’s mother has hit out at the hoax website that started the rumor that her son died this week.

Rivera was recently hospitalized due to pneumonia but has recovered. However, a false report claimed that he was dead on Thursday, sparking confusion about whether he was in fact dead or alive.

Now Dona Rosa, the mother of Lupillo and the now deceased Jenni Rivera, has spoken out about the hoax.

“A friend just called to tell me not to watch the news,” she told followers via Twitter. The friend asked if Lupillo was dead and Dona assured her that it wasn’t true.

“I told her they are crazy, I talked to him yesterday,” she replied. “He is alright. They don’t know what to invent anymore. I called him and everything is fine. My son is great.”

Lupillo himself quickly took to Twitter and Facebook to proclaim that he’s still alive.

The hoax website used screenshots that appeared to be from Telemundo but actually seem to be photoshopped.

As the website’s story was picked up by other outlets, the confusion over Rivera’s health spread quickly, prompting him to post the status update to Twitter and the video to Facebook.

“People are lying, and it’s all a lie,” he said.

Indeed, Rivera said that he’s due in New York for this weekend.
