Lone Star College stabbing: The suspect in a stabbing spree at a Texas college that injured at least a doze was described as a 21-year-old student who was enrolled at the college, officials said.
More than a dozen people were wounded in the Tuesday attack on the Lone Star Community College System’s campus in Cypress, located near Houston, reported The Associated Press.
Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia says officers responded to the campus after receiving a call about a white male “on the loose” stabbing people.
Garcia says the suspect is in custody.
“The attack was at random,” Harris County deputy Thomas Gilliland told USA Today. “It was the same suspect going from building to building.” The stabbings took place near the Health and Science Center.
Michelle Alvarez, a student, said that she saw the suspect running after other students, and she tried to move away. “He came running and swinging at my neck, as I tried to get out of the way,” she told the Houston Chronicle.
“When I was walking down the halls, I was just looking over my shoulder and left feeling wary of everything,” student Cassius Roberts said. “As the story unfolded I realized it was horrible.”
A student named James, who did not give a last name, told KTRK-TV that he helped police apprehend the suspect. When the suspect was tackled, he reportedly said, “'I give up, I give up.”
James said the suspect appeared to be hearing impaired and used a knife similar to an exacto knife, which could have also been used for animal dissections, the station reported.
There were reports of a second suspect, but police said there appears to have been only one person involved in the attack.
