LIRR Introduces Express Cannonball Train to Westhampton
Updated:

NEW YORK—For the first time, the Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) express Cannonball train will have nonstop service to Westhampton, a hamlet with a population just over 3,000, according to the 2010 census.

The service, which will run on Fridays and Sundays, will have Cannonball East and Cannonball West departure schedules that start in the late afternoon or early evening, and repeat several times. The Cannonball East will take approximately 94 minutes, and the West (Westhampton to Penn Station) will be slightly slower at about two hours. The train, will be second in speed only to flying to Westhampton, according to LIRR.

The LIRR says that customers will still be able to catch Montauk-bound trains at Hunterspoint Avenue on Thursday and Friday afternoons and connect to Penn Station and Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal.

Extra trains will be added on the Montauk line throughout Labor Day weekend due to potential overcrowding during popular getaway days.
