Letterman banned guest Harmony Korine: “Gummo” and “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine was banned from “The Late Show With David Letterman” after Letterman caught him rooting through Meryl Streep’s purse.
When “Spring Breakers” star James Franco appeared as a guest on “The Late Show” Tuesday night, David Letterman told him why he banned Franco’s friend, director Harmony Korine, from his show.
Korine, who had appeared on the show multiple times in the 1990s, was bumped the last time by Meryl Streep. He went to the studio, but did not appear on the show.
Franco said Korine had told him he was banned for pushing Streep back stage. Letterman said he found Korine rooting through Streep’s purse in her dressing room.

“Harmony is a very sane guy,” said Franco, admitting that when the incident happened about 10 years ago, Korine was “a little out of it … going a little off the rails,” and he might have been “on something.”
Letterman said he would consider bringing Korine back now that he’s no longer “off the rails.” Korine most recently directed “Spring Break,” but is also known for directing “Gummo” and writing “Kids.”
