LeBron James took to the court on Tuesday night without a headband, apparently starting a game without one for the first time in his career.

“LeBron’s played parts of games without a headband in career. To my knowledge, this is 1st time he’s started without it,” said ESPN’s Brian Windhorst via Twitter.

The omission got people’s notice in warmups, since it’s uncommon to see James before or during the game without a headband.

James decided in the latter part of the Cavaliers recent win over the Suns to play without his headband, and apparently decided to keep up the no-headband thing tonight.

Although James has apparently not ever started an NBA game without a headband, he has occasionally tossed it off or otherwise removed it, usually in frustration, in games, and has finished said games without the headband.

One of the most famous examples is game 6 of the 2013 NBA finals.

James removed the headband against the Suns during the second quarter, pleasing coach David Blatt.

“I’ve never been a headband guy, but I’m so old school,” Blatt told reporters after the win.
