HONG KONG—Saturday (Apr 9, 2016) saw this year’s HKFA League Cup Final contested between Kitchee and South China at Mongkok Stadium. Kitchee took the early lead in the 5th minute when Alexander Akande headed in Matthew Lam’s cross, a lead that they managed to take to the half time break.
Kitchee quickly doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Rufino Sgovia scored from the penalty spot after a South China player was punished for a foul, and Kitchee sealed the game in the 65th minute when Alexander Akande headed in a cross from Jered Lum.
Sunday’s (Apr 10) game saw a relegation battle between Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin and BC Rangers held at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground. Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin took the early lead in the 4th minute when BC Rangers defender Gee Kyunghun accidentally headed in to his own net, but BC Rangers hit back with a 25th minute equaliser when Ernesto Gomez fired into the net after a poor punched clearance from Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin goalkeeper Cheung King-wah.
BC Rangers took the lead in the 38th minute when Quentin Lendresse finished a ball into the box from Diego Folgar.
Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin equalised in the 51st minute when Everton Camargo’s shot from the edge of the box found the net via both goalposts. BC Rangers restored their lead in the 64th minute when Ernesto Gomez scored direct from a corner, but the game ended in a tie when Glory Sky Wong Tai Sin scored in the final minutes through Wong Chun-hin after Mirko Teodorovic’s corner wasn’t cleared by the BC Rangers defence. The result looks to leave BC Rangers at the foot of the table.
There were no games last weekend in the First or Second Divisions.
In the third division Islands drew 2-all with Fukien, Ornament drew nil-all with KCC, Hoi King were 3-1 winners against Rex Global North District, KCDRSC won 2-1 against Wing Go Fu Moon, Central & Western were 5-nil victors over King Mountain, St Joseph’s were 6-nil winners against Telecom, and GFC Friends were 4-nil winners against HKFYG.
Central & Western lead the table with 68 points from 25 matches, with Hoi King second with 63 points from 24 games.
