A major plot development took place in Game of Thrones, involving King Joffrey Baratheon.
Joffrey, played by Jack Gleeson, got married to Margery Tyrell in the second episode.
SPOILERS BELOW:
As many expected, Joffrey was killed during the Purple Wedding.
Joffrey ends up dying in front of the procession.
He was poisoned while eating the wedding feast in his throne room. The poisoning is blamed on Tyrion Lannister by former Queen Cersei.
Tyrion was humiliated in front of a crowd of people by Joffrey, leading many other characters to believe he was involved in the murder plot.
On Twitter, a large number of people reacted to his death.
“Joffrey is FINALLY dead thank The Lord #GameOfThrones,” wrote one user.
Added another: so happy @GameOfThrones did that scene by the book. [expletive] Joffrey.”
A few days ago, Gleeson told EW.com about how he feels about leaving the show.
“You want to do the scene and character justice. It’s a complicated scene; I’ve never had a death on screen before. You want it to look believable — the choking and the coughing. It’s calming to know I’m in the great hands of [director] Alex Graves,” he told EW.
Gleeson, 21, also talked about how he thinks fans will react to the death. “I think it will be 50-50. There will be a delight that the person tormenting their favorite characters is gone, but I would like to think there’s a certain sadness at the loss of the delight people take in hating a character like Joffrey,” he said.
“Certainly the death scene is pretty cool. And [in next week’s episode] we did the funeral scene where I was on a cliff with stones in my eyes and I just got to sleep all day, and [spoiler happened]. So that was fun,” he said.
