Khichdi is the first Indian television show now raring to enter the Bollywood Box Office in October. Produced by J.D. Majethia, Khichdi, is a popular Hindi TV serial that has been running over the span of the past five years. It is has now been made into a Hindi feature film.
The serial revolves around the life of the Parekh family, with comic twists and turns to keep the couch potatoes captivated. Much of its humour derives from the urban life style of the Indian middle class society.
“Remakes of serials is possible only when it has a comic element in it. Otherwise, nobody is interested in seeing a family drama as a film. Somehow, I thought Parekh would be ideal because of the popularity it enjoyed,” says Majethia, in his interview with the Indian Express. Majethia has produced many successful TV shows like Khichdi, Baa, Bahoo Aur Baby and Shree.
Khichdi is a favourite Indian dish, a delicious melange of vegetables, lentils and rice cooked with curry Masala and the movie promises to be just that, comic scenes thrown in from the serial and made into one palatable dish. Majethia, has added to the spice value by dragging Karan Johar into a controversy on the social networking idea for the movie.
The theme and the storyline of the film have nothing new to offer to the average movie goer. Nevertheless it seems that the nostalgia of the serial can help it make to the Box office.
