Kevin Hart arrested: After the comedian was arrested, he tweeted that “This is a wake up call for me.”
Comedian Kevin Hart was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after his black Mercedes nearly collided with a tanker trunk on a Southern California freeway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Ed Jacobs says Hart was driving erratically at over 90 miles per hour appeared intoxicated when he was pulled over before dawn Sunday on Highway 101 in Los Angeles.
Hart failed a field sobriety test and was booked for misdemeanor DUI. He was released Sunday afternoon after payment of a $5,000 bond.
A female passenger in Hart’s car was sent home in a taxi.
Hart has appeared in 51 movies, including “Little Fockers” and “Laugh at My Pain.” Hart also performs stand-up comedy; he has tour dates again starting in May in Atlantic City, NJ.
A call to a spokesperson for Hart was not immediately returned, but Hart took to Twitter to clear up what happened.
“This is a wake up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn’t,” he said. “Everything happens for a reason.”
Hart said he did a lot of push-ups and sit-ups while waiting to be bailed out, although he hinted that he was joking.
Most of his tweets were serious. He said that when the cop asked him to take the sobriety test Hart told him “Why waste our time? I’m drunk man.”
“Drinking & driving is not a game or a laughing matter,” Hart said. “People have lost lives because of stupid [stuff] like this!”
