Kanye West and wife, Kim Kardashian, are threatening to seek a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against former bodyguard, Steve Stanulis, after he slammed the couple in several interviews, including with the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
“The West family will no longer tolerate the spreading and selling of fake stories in a desperate, transparent and shameless attempt for publicity at their expense,” the representative told Us magazine in a statement. “As such, the Wests will explore all legal means at their disposal to silence this nonsense.”
Stanulis had worked for the couple for 15 days in 2016, including Fashion Week in February and more recently at the Met Gala—until he was allegedly abruptly fired. According to the former Chippendale dancer, West mistook his professional behavior for flirting with the reality star.
“I had no intention on hitting on Kim Kardashian. I am happily married. I got enough problems in the world and three young kids, so that was not my intent,” he said in the April interview. “Maybe it was a misunderstanding, but I didn’t have the opportunity.”
He added: “She’s a very beautiful girl, very attractive. But obviously it was just to see if they were going to get to the Met Gala at a particular time. I'd like to think this was all a misunderstanding. But if this was the reason, to be where he is and to be that insecure, it is mind boggling to me.”
A source close to the couple told Us magazine that Stanulis “was never fired, nor was he ever employed full time.”
Throughout the interview and in several others, Stanulis speaks poorly of the Chicago rapper, labeling him as the “most self-absorbed person I have ever met in my life.”
According to reports, Stanulis violated confidentiality agreement which states he isn’t allowed to publicly speak about the married couple.
Steve Stanulis has yet to comment on the latest developments.
