Kansas Waiter Gets a Fake $20 ‘Tip’ That’s Only a Religious Message

An angry waiter in Kansas went on social media to complain about a “tip” he received.

Garret Wayman, 17, thought he got a $20 tip after serving a customer at DK in Mulvane, but realized it was a fake piece of legal tender with a pre-printed religious message.

Wayman said it was a religious pamphlet that read: “DON'T BE FOOLED! THERE IS SOMETHING YOU CAN HAVE MORE VALUABLE THAN MONEY!”

Wayman said he wasn’t thrilled with the fake bill, as he makes less than minimum wage before tips.

“He just left that,” Wayman told Tech Insider. “I wanted to tell him that I only make $3 an hour and bust my [expletive] at my job to make way less than I deserve, but he was gone by the time I had the chance to.”

Elaborating further, Wayman said he doesn’t take weekends off and instead works to pay the $7,000 owed on his car.

“I was just taken aback because I don’t know if you’ve ever been a server, but whenever you see a $20 tip it’s a big deal,” Wayman told KAKE-TV.

Numerous users on the social media site commented that the fake tip was a bad move, with one person even offering Wayman cash.

“DM me with your info & I'll send you $20. Seriously,” wrote person on Twitter to Wayman, to which he declined.

One person who said she was a waitress said she got a fake bill.

And another Twitter user, who says she’s a pastor, said she “would like to apologize.”
